La Joya ISD Summer Strength & Conditioning Program Helps Student-Athletes Build Strength, Skills, and Confidence

La Joya, TX - While summer provides students with a break from the classroom, hundreds of La Joya ISD student-athletes are spending their mornings investing in their future through the district's Summer Strength & Conditioning Program.
Hosted at La Joya High School, Palmview High School, and Juarez-Lincoln High School, the program serves students in grades 6-12 and is designed to help participants improve strength, endurance, speed, and overall athletic performance while preparing for the upcoming school year and competitive sports seasons.
Through structured workouts, skill development activities, and guidance from coaches, students are building healthy habits, developing discipline, and strengthening the mindset needed to succeed both on and off the field. The program also provides opportunities for students to train alongside teammates, develop leadership skills, and foster a culture of accountability and teamwork.

"Summer Strength & Conditioning is about much more than preparing for athletics," said Joe Peña, Executive Athletic Director for La Joya ISD. "It provides students with an opportunity to develop discipline, resilience, confidence, and a strong work ethic. The lessons they learn through training carry over into the classroom, their extracurricular activities, and everyday life.”
In addition to athletic training, the program offers TSI tutorials for students in grades 9-12, reinforcing the district's commitment to supporting both academic and athletic success. By combining physical development with educational opportunities, the program helps students remain engaged and productive throughout the summer months.

The Summer Strength & Conditioning Program reflects La Joya ISD's commitment to developing well-rounded students and supports the district's Achieving Excellence Together: 2030 Strategic Plan, particularly Priority 2: Empowered Graduates and Priority 3: Thriving Students. Through programs like these, students gain valuable experiences that promote physical wellness, personal growth, teamwork, and lifelong success.
As student-athletes continue to train, learn, and grow this summer, they are not only preparing for the next season - they are building the foundation for future achievement in athletics, academics, and beyond.
