LA JOYA, Texas — Preliminary 2026 STAAR and End-of-Course (EOC) growth results show that La Joya ISD students are continuing to make academic progress across the district.

While final state results and accountability ratings have not yet been released, early growth data indicate that students are making gains in multiple grade levels and subjects, with several areas meeting or exceeding state growth.

Preliminary Growth Highlights

  • Grades 3–8 Reading: Met or exceeded state growth in 3 of 6 tested grade levels.

  • Grades 3–8 Math: Met or exceeded state growth in 4 of 6 tested grade levels.

  • English I: Outgrew the state by 1 point.

  • English II: Outgrew the state by 3 points.

  • Algebra I: Outgrew the state by 1 point.

  • Biology: Outgrew the state by 7 points.

  • U.S. History: Outgrew the state by 7 points.

Among the strongest gains, Biology increased by 16 points from the previous year, while U.S. History increased by 9 points.

“These preliminary results are encouraging because they show students are making progress,” said Dr. Marcey Sorensen, Superintendent of Schools. “Growth reflects the hard work happening every day in our classrooms. We are proud of our students, teachers, staff, and families for their commitment to learning and continuous improvement.”

Student growth measures how much students improve from one year to the next and provides an important indicator of academic progress over time.

“Growth matters because it shows students are learning,” said Dr. Derek Little, Chief of Academics and School Leadership. “We are seeing positive movement across multiple subjects, particularly in Biology, U.S. History, Algebra I, and secondary reading. These results reflect the collective effort of our educators, campus leaders, students, and families.” District leaders attribute the positive trends to focused instructional support, high-quality learning materials, strong campus leadership, targeted interventions, and a commitment to student success. “We made intentional instructional shifts and adjustments this year in our instructional approach across the District.  These high expectations were met with support, guidance, and additional resources, so that everyone understood the importance of improving student outcomes.” said Superintendent, Dr. Marcey Sorensen

As La Joya ISD continues implementing its Achieving Excellence Together 2030 Strategic Plan, district leaders remain focused on ensuring every student continues to grow academically.

Although the results remain preliminary, the early data provide an encouraging sign that students are moving in the right direction and that district improvement efforts are producing results.

La Joya ISD students are growing, educators are making an impact, and the district continues building momentum toward greater success.
