La Joya, TX - La Joya ISD is celebrating another milestone in its commitment to student safety and operational excellence with the arrival of six brand-new school buses Friday morning, marking the first delivery of an 18-bus purchase totaling nearly $2.8 million.

The new arrivals include four buses designed to serve students with special transportation needs and two regular-route school buses. Their arrival represents a significant step toward modernizing the District's transportation fleet, replacing aging vehicles and strengthening the daily services relied upon by students and families across La Joya ISD.

"We are extremely excited to begin welcoming these additions to our fleet," said Joe Alaniz, Transportation Director for La Joya ISD. "We're very thankful to our Board of Managers and our superintendent for their leadership and support in making these resources available. These buses will be extremely beneficial to our day-to-day operations as we continue working to provide the best possible transportation services for our students."

Approved by the La Joya ISD Board of Managers, the $2,794,600 investment includes 12 regular-route school buses and six special-needs buses. The District announced the purchase in August as part of its ongoing efforts to improve transportation safety, reliability and efficiency.

The regular-route buses include three-point passenger seat belts, security camera systems, backup cameras, air conditioning and vehicle monitoring systems. The special-needs buses include accessibility features such as wheelchair accommodations, wheelchair lifts and dedicated storage compartments to better serve students requiring specialized transportation.

Beyond enhancing safety and reliability, the investment will allow the District to replace 18 older buses that have required frequent maintenance and repairs. By introducing newer vehicles into its fleet, La Joya ISD anticipates reducing recurring repair needs and improving the efficiency of its transportation operations, potentially freeing up resources for other departmental priorities.

"Replacing some of our older buses that constantly require repairs is going to make a tremendous difference for our department," Alaniz added. "Having these new vehicles will not only help us provide more dependable service but will also allow us to better utilize our resources and address other needs within Transportation. We're excited about what this investment means for our department and, most importantly, for our students."

The investment directly supports Priority 5: Operational Excellence & Financial Stability of La Joya ISD's Achieving Excellence Together: 2030 Strategic Plan, which focuses on strengthening operational systems, responsibly managing resources and making strategic improvements that support students, employees and families.
